Quannapowitt Players Award Annual Scholarship
Quannapowitt Players (QP) recently awarded its annual scholarship to Kassondra Glenn, a Class of 2011 graduate of North Reading High School who will head off to Carnegie Mellon University in the fall to study theater design and technical production management.
The annual scholarship is offered each year to students from Reading and Wakefield (the communities of QP’s founding members) and contiguous communities, who are pursuing higher education in the performing arts.
Scholarship Committee chairperson Diane Lind, a long-time QP member and Wakefield High School English teacher, said this year’s scholarship applicants were a number of talented, motivated students, but the committee members “were unanimous in our enthusiasm for Kassondra Glenn.”
Glenn honed her technical and design talents through productions at North Reading High, where she received multiple awards for Excellence in Technical Theatre. Other honors include the North Shore Music Theatre Spotlight Award for Best Scenic Design/ Execution, first place in the New England Theatre Conference Set and Lighting Design Competition, and four awards for Excellence in Stage Management and Scenic Design from the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild Awards Program.
Lind presented the scholarship to Glenn in a special ceremony preceding QP’s final performance of the 2010-2011 season, at QP’s black box theater on Hopkins Street in Reading.
Quannapowitt Players is a volunteer-based, non-profit theater celebrating three quarters of a century of bringing quality theater to the community.
Its 75th Anniversary Season will open on Friday, September 16 with All You Need Is Love, a musical inspired by the work of the Beatles, followed by the English farce Noises Off in November, Dracula in January, the comedy The Foreigner in March, and The Diary of Anne Frank in May.
