Police Log: Reading Man Arrested for DUI

Reading Man Arrested for DUI
12:20 p.m.—Police investigated a motor vehicle crash at Grove Street and Mark Avenue, and as a result, a 54-year-old Reading man was arrested. Stephen P. Kenary was arrested for operating under the influence and failure to yield for oncoming traffic and placed in protective custody after refusing a breathalyzer test. There were no serious injuries as a result of the crash, and the suspect was released on $600 bail.
3:10 a.m.—Police received a call from an Ashley Place resident who reported her daughter’s pocketbook was stolen while she was at a party. Officers spoke with the victim and were alerted to a possible suspect.
7:25 a.m.—The pocketbook from the above entry was turned into the station by a Reading resident who found it while walking.
11:40 a.m.—Police responded to Shelby Road after the homeowner reported his 23-year-old son was out of control. Officers responded and resolved the situation.
4:17 p.m.—A Van Norden Road resident came to the police station to report being the recipient of a scam phone call. The caller stated that she and her husband needed to get new medical cards. After she told the man they had recently gotten new cards he hung up.
6:31 p.m.—Police received a report of youths throwing things at cars at Harrison and Salem Streets. Officers responded but were unable to locate the youths.
9:38 p.m.—A Dunbar Road resident reported a gray Toyota van speeding up and down the street. Officers checked the area but didn’t find the van.
10:39 p.m.—Officers assisted Wakefield Police with the search for a motor vehicle that failed to stop for police. The vehicle and suspect were eventually apprehended by Wakefield PD.
10:51 p.m.—As the result of a motor vehicle stop at Salem and Eaton Streets, Daniel P. Schwarz, 19, of Reading was cited for possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

No, @Jane ... we didn't name the individual. There is a very good reason why the name is not being released. The family's privacy outweighs the news value of releasing the name in this case. It's fine if you want to connect the dots, but that info will not come from Reading Patch and I will delete any comments that attempt to identify him. It's because of the nature of the death, Jane. This is standard procedure. Please respect my policy. This isn't a freedom of the press issue, it's an ethical one.
