Police Log: State Police Nab Reading Hit and Run Suspect

Notable entries from the Tuesday, Feb. 7, police log.

 

The following information was supplied by the Reading police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

7:29 p.m.—Police responded to a two-car hit and run accident at the Honda Gallery on Walker’s Brook Drive, in which a female suffered a head injury. A witness stated the suspect vehicle was a silver Jeep Cherokee with heavy front-end damage and was last observed continuing on Walker’s Brook Drive into Reading. Police notified surrounding communities, and an RPD officer was able to follow a trail of fluids into Stoneham, and a search of the area with Stoneham PD was conducted, but turned up nothing. State police from Concord later apprehended the suspect and arrested him for unlicensed operation and DUI. He was also summonsed by Reading Police for unlicensed operation and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injuries. The suspect’s identity was not immediately available.

Police Log

7:04 a.m.—Police investigated a two-car motor vehicle accident at Bolton and Ash Streets. The crash was minor and no one was injured.

8:12 a.m.—An officer from the Winchester Police Department reported a dark Dodge Stratus in front of a West Hill Circle home for an extended period of time. Police responded and discovered the license plate on the vehicle did not belong to it and the ignition was missing. The vehicle was towed.

8:40 a.m.—Police discovered an individual sleeping in a car near Camp Curtis Guild. The individual stated that he got tired on his way home and was just resting.

11:05 a.m.—A female resident came to the police station seeking advice regarding a missing iPad. She was given guidance and no further action was taken.

12:05 p.m.—A John Carver Road resident notified police that her son has been acting aggressively, and wanted officers to be aware of the potential need for assistance.

12:07 p.m.—A resident of the Chadwick Arms on Lakeview Street requested extra checks by police after noticing unfamiliar vehicles and used condoms in the parking lot. The caller said he had advised the landlord and would call police if he saw anything further.

12:40 p.m.—A 21-year-old resident reported being the victim of a phone scam and said he gave out his bank account number and routing information. The victim was supposed to call the person back when money was transferred into a bank account to receive promised grant funds. The victim said he would freeze his account and make sure no money had been withdrawn.

2:33 p.m.—A Gardner Road resident reported their vehicle had been broken into and a GPS unit stolen.

3:05 p.m.—Police responded to Sovereign Bank on Main Street for a report of a male party—possibly intoxicated—who had lost his keys. The person in question left with a relative and his car was left in the lot.

9:33 p.m.—A motor vehicle stop at King Street and Summer Avenue led police to issue a by-law citation to Darryl J. Scott, 24, of Cambridge, for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. The suspect was given a field sobriety test before being sent on his way.

10:36 p.m.—As the result of a traffic stop on Ash Street, Paul A. Dagnese, Jr., 23, of Reading, was cited for possession of under one ounce of marijuana.
