Reading Students to Get Buffet of Nutrition Education

FoodPlay will bring Johnny Junkfood to each of the town's schools.

Reading elementary school students this week will get a buffet of education on eating better from an award-winning educational group.

FoodPlay, a group that says it was formed to “turn kids on to healthy habits” will perform at each of the town’s elementary school this week to show them the antics of “Johnny Junkfood.”

Mr. Junkfood, according to a release from FoodPlay, wants to “become a national juggling star, but keeps dropping the balls” due to his poor eating habits.

By way of Junkfood’s struggle, “Children learn how to see through TV commercials, decipher food labels, and make choices that are good for their health and good for the health of the planet,” the release said.

In addition to this week’s performances, the release said that each of the schools will receive a “follow-up resource kit” with educational materials to extend the nutritional lesson throughout the school year.

The group will visit Wood End Elementary on Tuesday, Joshua Eaton Elementary on Wednesday, Birch Meadow and J. Warren Killam Elementary on Thursday and Alice M. Barrows Elementary on Friday.

Reading’s Parent Teacher Organizations for each of the schools collaborated to sponsor the visit.

I use "Get Official Samples" to find free samples of major brands online. Please note they update their samples every day but I just pick what ever available at that time and use them.
